The Migrant program is a federally-funded program that serves ages 3-21 years of age of families who move into the county to find temporary or seasonal work in agriculture. The purpose of the program is to provide support and services to meet the needs of the families in order to remove barriers to promote education.
English Learners
English Learners (ELs) are those students in Kentucky schools whose primary language is other than English. English Learners enter Kentucky schools with a variety of language backgrounds, educational experiences and levels of English proficiency.
Title III of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 is part of legislation enacted to ensure that English Learners, including immigrant children and youth, develop English proficiency and meet the same academic content and academic achievement standards that other children are expected to meet.
Services that are provided are: Home visits, food, hygiene supplies, school supplies, clothing, medical needs, preschool instruction, academic assistance, summer instruction, and such. The goal is to enhance the development of the whole child, with high school graduation or GED completion as the ultimate outcome. The Migrant Center is located in the Board of Education office and can be reached at (270)-487-0003.
