My name is Whittany Shaw Underwood and I will be your child's fifth grade teacher this school year. Since your child will be spending most of their time with me, I would like to take the time to introduce myself.
This is my sixth year teaching at Tompkinsville Elementary School. I am very excited to begin another year as a part of the CUB family. I am a 2007 graduate of Allen County. I graduated Western Kentucky University in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I also received my masters as a Teacher Leader from University of the Cumberlands in 2015. I received my Rank 1 in Administration in 2017. I am from Fountain Run. I grew up on a farm with my three sisters. In my spare time, I love to go to the lake, walk the trail at the park with my dog, shop, read and spoil my nieces and nephews. I am married to Chris Underwood. Along with that, I gained a stepson that I love as my own. I don't have any children yet,but I consider my students my kids.
I do believe that one of the main ingredients for your child to have a successful school year is through parent and teacher communication and collaboration. It is very important that we work together to ensure that your child reaches his/her full potential. My door is always open to parent volunteers. You are always welcome to contact me before school, after school, through email or during planning to voice your concerns or any questions that you might have! My planning is from 1:27-2:07 or you can reach me anytime after 3:00. I know that parents are valuable members of student success and I am very excited for you to be a part of our team.
I believe that teaching is the most rewarding job there is. There is an unexplainable feeling that comes over your heart when you hear a child say "Oh, I get it." There's nothing like it in the world and I can't imagine doing anything else with my life other than being a teacher. I can't wait to start this school year and begin learning and growing with you!
