Congratulations to the 7th grade boys basketball team for winning runner-up in the SKMSAA Conference Tournament. The team won two games defeating Allen Co. and Moss before losing a hard-fought battle against Barren Co. in the championship game.

Educators from across the state of Kentucky have recognized that MCMS is a "School to Watch". Visitors will be in our school on Thursday, February 17th and Friday, February 18th to interview staff, students, and parents as well as observe many forms of teaching strategies and learning styles going on in the classroom.

Music Band Students Compete at Solo/Ensemble
The Kentucky Music Educators Association sponsors district level Solo and Small Ensemble contests across the state. Monroe County Middle School participates in District 3 (Bowling Green District) assessment each year.  Students perform a selected piece of music before a qualified evaluator who rates their performance Distinguished, Proficient, Apprentice or Novice.  Our students have been preparing for this event for several weeks and their outstanding ratings show the huge amount of work and dedication they put forth in preparation for this event.

Did you do some spring cleaning over Spring Break? Do you have clothes that you do not know what to do with? Donate them to a yard sale that will benefit the American Cancer Society. MCMS Relay for Life team is partnering with the Jr. Guard to host the yard sale. Donations can be dropped off at the middle school and Brenda Humes or Kim Graves can help you out. A receipt can be obtained for all donations. Contact Brenda or Kim if you have any questions. The date for the yard sale has not been set yet, but will be in May.

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association Track and Field competition was held in Louisville Friday, May 27th and Tanner Kendall won the state long jump competition with a unofficial jump of 20’ 11 ½” and he also finished second in the high jump.  Amber Gordon, Jordan Mink, Tanner Kendall & Skylar Turner all represented Monroe County well and they are all WINNERS

JHC competed in the National Jr BETA Songfest Competition June 17th and were named National Champs on Monday, June 20th in Nashville!  Also, Betty Estes, was awarded 4th place in black and white photography!  Way to go JHC BETA!!!!

A CELEBRATION honoring MCMS as a Kentucky School to Watch took place on Monday, May 23rd. The program showcased why MCMS was deserving of this honor. The band played, students sang and played the piano, students, staff members, and parents gave speeches, and a video was shown. The 8th grade SKMAA Conference Tournament games has been rescheduled and will be played on Saturday, February 18th. The Falcons, who are in first place, will play at 11:30 against the winner of the Drakes Creek vs. Franklin Simpson game. The game will be played at Drakes Creek. The Lady Falcons will play at 10:15 against South Warren at Franklin-Simpson. Good luck to both teams. Let's bring home a Championship!

As a classroom and school winner of the geographic bee, Harrison Froedge tested his knowledge on world geography and has qualified to participate at the state level of the National Geographic Bee. Harrison Froedge State Geography Bee
A big congratulations goes out to Harrison Froedge on representing MCMS in the State Geography Bee on March 30 in Bowling Green. Harrison qualified for the state by winning the school bee and placing high in a written assessment. The top 100 students in the state were invited for the competition. Harrison had to answer a number of written and oral questions and made it to the round of 10. He finished in 7th place!

Chess Team Chess Team Winners
On Saturday, April 21, the chess team competed in the SOKY Invitational in Bowling Green. The team placed 1st overall in the Jr. High division against teams from around the state. Harrison Froedge placed 3rd, JayJay Jones placed 4th and Aaron Vickery placed 6th. The team practices each week after school and is coached by Tim McHenry and lead by Amanda Sherfey.

Little Falcon Softball Team Host "Little Falcon" Night

On Thursday, May 3, 2012, the Lady Falcon Softball Team hosted their first annual Little Lady Falcon night.  The night was a huge success and a big thanks goes out to the parents of all “Lady Falcons” who participated in the event.

Jr. Beta's final fund raising activity will be this Saturday, May 12 starting at 8:30 AM in front of Walmart. Beta members need to bring the following:

·         Pies

·         Or anything homemade that someone would purchase.

To prepare for National Convention, practices will be June 7, 14, 18, and 21 from 5:00-6:00 PM  here at Monroe County Middle School. It is important that all who are going to convention to attend.

The group will meet at MCMS at 11:30 PM on Friday, June 22, and the group will depart promptly at 12:01 AM on Saturday, June 23.  Our performance will be at 2:00 PM, EST on Saturday.

Eat Lunch Parents Invited to Eat Lunch with Child
The third annual Parent Luncheon will be held September 5-7. Parents are invited to eat lunch, pick up child's progress report and conference with teachers. Please let the school know if you plan to attend so that adequate meals are available. Notes were sent home with students last week, but can also be found here for sixth grade, seventh grade, and eighth grade. Sixth grade parents will come to school on September 5, seventh grade on September 6, and eighth grade on September 7.

First Falcon Finance Bank held interviews on Friday, September 7th. Interested seventh graders first learned about the possibility of being an employee of FFF from South Central Bank employees, filled out a job application, and the final step was the job interview. Student employees will learn about their new job while visiting South Central Bank on September 17th, and the bank will open on September 20th.

The 8th Grade Falcon Football Team played their last game on Saturday, October 13th against Campbellsville Middle in the regional playoffs. The Falcons came up short on the scoreboard but played with heart and determination scoring during the last minute of the game. Congratulations 8th graders. We look forward to seeing you play next  year.

Basketball 7th Grade Conference Tournament
The 7th grade SKMSAC tournament games will be played on Saturday, January 19th. MCMS 7th grade boys are a #1 seed and will play the winner of South Warren and Bazzell at 11:30 at Barren Co. Middle. The 7th grade girls are a #2 seed and will play Barren Co. at 12:45. The brackets are below.

There will be no school on Friday, January 25th due to the Lady Falcons playing in the All "A" tournament in Frankfort, Kentucky.  Game time is at 12:00 cst.  Hope everyone can make the trip to support the Lady Falcons!!!!!  Our local radio station will be broadcasting live on 102.7 and we will also be streaming the game.

There will be no school in Monroe County on February 1st due to slick roads in some parts of the county.  Please drive safe.

Luncheon Parent Luncheon

The second Parent Luncheon will be held February 6 for 6th grade parents, February 7 for 7th grade parents and February 8 for 8th grade parents. We invite all parents to come and eat lunch with your child and visit with teachers to conference on how well your child is doing in class. Notes are being sent home with students on Wednesday, but if for some reason you do not receive a note, the note can be found here.

Those parents who are unable to attend the luncheon may attend the Parent/Teacher Conference on Monday, February 11th from 3:00 to 6:00. Keep in mind that students grades can be checked at any time via Infinite Campus Parent Portal.

Be sure to check with each school to see when the best time is to deliver items to the school for Valentine's Day.  Remember, NO GLASS CONTAINERS AND NO BALLOONS ON A SCHOOL BUS.  Also remember whatever is sent to them must fit in their lap while on the bus.

STLP State STLP Competition

Thirty-two STLP members traveled to Lexington to compete at the State STLP competition. Six groups of students presented showcases, seventeen entered videos, and one competed in gaming during the all day competition.

Congratulations goes out to McKayla Cornelius, Laura Hamilton, and Courtney Cornelius on winning Best Group for their showcase "What's Cooking at MCMS". They collected recipes from current and past staff members, created a cookbook, and will donate proceeds to the mastery lab at school.

GEAR UP Students Visit UK with GEAR UP

A group of 37 seventh and eighth grade students from Monroe County Middle School received the honor of being recognized as 2013 University of Kentucky S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Science) students. The selected students completed an application process and were afforded the opportunity to venture across the campus of the University of Kentucky while learning about various S.T.E.M. fields by participating in an assortment of activities and workshops.

This event was supported by GEAR UP Kentucky, an acronym for "Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs." GEAR UP is currently providing Monroe County students with services that include college tours, enrichment services, academic advising, life skills training, and career exploration.

On Saturday, November 16, MCMS Band students auditioned for placement in the prestigious Third District Band Directors Association 7th & 8th Grade All-District Band.  More than 400 students from 21 area middle schools auditioned to receive placement in the 99 seat band.  All students memorized scales, practiced sightreading, and prepared music for the audition process.

All-District Band All-District Band

Harrison Froedge, Ariston Jones, Zach Ford, and Austin Rhoton were members of the prestigious Third District Band Directors Association 7th & 8th Grade All-District Band.  They were members of the 99 seat band.  The band rehearsed on Friday and performed for family and friends on Saturday, January 11 at WKU's Van Meter Auditorium.

Due to the threat of severe weather, The Boys/Girls Varsity basketball game scheduled for Thursday, February 20th, against Warren East has been rescheduled for Friday, February 21st.

T.E.S. Beta Club students came home big winners from last week's Kentucky Jr. Beta Convention. T.E.S. placed 1st in the Living Literature competition, and Camden Jackson, 5th grader, placed 2nd in woodworking. Congratulations to all students and sponsors. The Jr. Beta Club Convention was held in Louisville February 19-21. Monroe County Middle School students participated in Living Literature, Song Fest, Special Talent, Speech, Arts and Crafts, and also ran for Chaplin. MCMS came away as winners in Song Fest, 3rd in Spotlight Your Club, and Dalton Hodges was elected as Chaplin. These winners are invited to the National Jr. Beta Convention in Richmond, Virginia mid-June.

Music KMEA Solo and Ensemble Ratings
On Saturday, March 1, 2014 Monroe County Middle School Band students prepared music for 24 solo and/or ensemble performance events at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Solo & Ensemble Performance Assessment held at Henry F. Moss middle school in Bowling Green, KY. Performances received both written and verbal feedback from adjudicators. ALL events received Distinguished or Proficient ratings. Students receiving a Distinguished or Proficient rating will be awarded the official KMEA medals.

Music Seven Habits Song

A "Leader in Me- Seven Habits" song was written by Mrs. Hope Myatt and recorded and edited by Mrs.Terri Collins. This song is sung by the entire student body during Friday morning assembly. This song demonstrates that seven habits are molding our students to be responsible, show initiative,  creative, set goals and meet them, get along with people of various backgrounds and cultures, and who could resolve conflicts and solve problems.

Blue Ribbon Award Tompkinsville Elementary School Receives Blue Ribbon Award!

Tompkinsville Elementary School has been named a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. Only four public schools in the state of Kentucky recieved this award!

“Kentucky’s Blue Ribbon Schools are great examples of what happens when the various elements of Unbridled Learning – effective teaching, engaged student learning, exemplary programs and strong leadership work together for the benefit of all children,” said Education Commissioner Terry Holliday. “Every child deserves a world class education and these schools are models for those in the rest of the state where students are not yet performing at such high levels.”

A ceremony will be held in November in Washington, D.C. to recgonize these schools. Congratulations TES students and staff on this great accomplishment!

Good Luck to the MCMS cheerleaders as they compete in the KAPOS Cheerleading Competition on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Bowling Green High School. The doors will open at 9:00 and the competition will begin at 11:00.

Parent Night EXPLORE Parent Night

All 8th grade parents are invited to the EXPLORE Parent Night on Tuesday, November 11 from 5-7 in cafeteria. Parents can pick up EXPLORE results and will have the opportunity to discuss the results. Light refreshments will be served.

Members of the Entrepreneur Club will be having a Entrepreneurial Fair on Thursday, December 4 in the gym. Members have created items and will be selling them. Any profit earned is divide among the group members. Please come out and support our students.

Cheerleaders Cheerleaders in Competition

MCMS Cheerleaders will be in the Snowball Classic in Bowling Green on Saturday, December 6. The competition will be at Bowling Green High School and the cheerleaders will compete at 1:30. Good Luck!

Band All-District Band

Nine students auditioned for the 2015 Third-District All-District Band. Students from across the region compete for chair selection. We are extremely proud of our students significant accomplishment.  The band will perform on January 8-10, 2015 at WKU.

KMSFA Petett Plays in East/West All-Star Game

Curtis Petett, a 7th grader, played in the Kentucky East/West All-Star game on Sunday, November 30 at Kentucky State University. Curtis was nominated, tried out for the team and was selected to play wide-receiver. He played for the West Team and wore jersey #10. Congratulations to Curtis and thank you for representing Monroe County. Check out the game and see if you can spot Curtis.

Academic Showcase 6th Grade Academic Showcase

MCMS hosted the 6th Grade Academic Showcase on Saturday, Dec. 7. Congratulations to the team on winning 4th place in Quick Recall Competition. Team members are Stuart Ellis, Camden Jackson, Bryant Tandy, Sydney Wade, and Bailey Wheeler. Individuals who placed were Bryant Tandy and Bailey Wheeler. Bryant placed 1st in Social Studies and 3rd in Science. Bailey placed 6th in Science.

Ky National Football Team Brooks Selected for Ky National Football Team

Jholdi Brooks, a 7th grade football player, was selected to play on the Kentucky National Football Team. He was invited to try out for the 38 player team. Jholdi plays wide receiver, running back and free safety. The first games were played on Dec. 6 & 7 in Paducah against Nashville and St. Louis teams with the Kentucky National Team winning both games. The team will play again on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia against South Atlanta. Congratulations to Jholdi for earning a spot on the team and representing Monroe County.

KYA (Kentucky Youth Assembly)

Eighteen students traveled to Frankfort to participate in Kentucky Youth Assembly. Delegates will present bills, debate bills, and vote on bills. MCMS students had their bill passed by both the House and Senate and signed by the Governor. Congratulations to Dalton Hodges, Graham Stephens, and Sawyer Cherry. Their bill required food stamp recipients to be drug tested annually. Keep in mind, these bills have been written by students and have been voted on by students. They are learning the process of how a bill becomes a law at KYA.

STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program) members presented their showcases at Regional Competition on Dec. 8 at Western Kentucky University. Three groups were invited to state competition in March.

Basketball 7th Grade Wins Conference Tournament

The 7th Grade Boys Basketball Team won the SKMAC Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 17 at Bazzell Middle School. The team won against South Warren, Drakes Creek, and Bowling Green in the finals. The team went undefeated for the season going 23-0. Congratulations!

Metcalfe County Archery Shoot Winners Metcalfe County Archery Shoot Winners

Wade Dubree placed 1st and Wade Carnahan placed 4th in the Metcalfe County Archery Shoot. There were 21 in their age group and 160 competing overall. Congratulations Wade and Wade and Coach Dallas Carnahan!

 

Spelling Bee District Spelling Bee

Gracie Russell out-spelled and outlasted other school winners and was the winner of the District Spelling Bee. She will move on to the state spelling bee. Congratulations Gracie and good luck.

 

KMEA KMEA Solo and Ensemble Ratings

On Saturday, March 14, 2015 Monroe County Middle School Band students prepared music for solo and/or ensemble performance events at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Solo & Ensemble Performance Assessment held at Henry F. Moss Middle School in Bowling Green. Performances received both written and verbal feedback from adjudicators. ALL events received Distinguished or Proficient ratings. Students receiving a Distinguished or Proficient rating will be awarded the official KMEA medals. A Distinguished rating means a superior performance while Proficient represents an excellent performance. This is outstanding work by our band students.

Homecoming MCMS Homecoming

The Homecoming Festivities will be on Thursday, Aug. 27 at 5:00. The 7th and 8th grade football teams will take the field starting at 5:30. The Falcons will play Clinton Co. Gamaliel Elementary and Tompkinsville Elementary School hosted teachers and administrators from Larue County.  Visitors learned about instructional practice, data analysis and student performance while touring Monroe County Schools.

Brooks Brooks Plays in East/West All Star Game

Jholdi Brooks played in the Kentucky Middle School East/West All-Star Football Game over the weekend. He won three awards: fastest 8th grade 40 Yard Dash, best Flat Jump, and Offensive Player of the Game. Jholdi scored two touchdowns as well as the 2 point conversion to help the West team to win 27-26. We are proud of Jholdi!
